Just Throwing it Out There…
I must get something off of my chest.
If you are on the treadmill, and walking at an incline of 15, and holding on for dear life, YOU SHOULD NOT BE WALKING AT THAT INCLINE.
Holding on negates the results. You should not have to hold onto the treadmill. If you are, you are at too high of an intensity for your fitness level.
Inclines are great, and enhance results tremendously, but only if you are actually walking at that incline. Pump your arms to propel yourself forward, or put them on your waist, but don’t touch the machine.
Also, girls, don’t work out with your hair down. It bothers me.
That is all. Thank you.

Heh nice- I like a good incline but if you need to hold onto the handles for dear life then theres something a little wrong with that.
It drives me NUTS when I forget to wear a hairtie… I hate it how easily hair gets in the way. So frustrating!

Ugh, I hate it when girls wear (have to admit, I originally spelled it “where” - ugh, hate that too, haha) their hair down! Why, why would you want to sweaty hair in your face? Give me one good reason.

I agree with you on your first point. But I HAVE to workout with my hair down. It’s too short to put in ponies (even 2). I have a weirdly shaped head so headbands will not stay on (even the “sticky” ones). I get my bangs back with bobbies but that’s the best I can do. Too many layers;)

Amen sister! The ladies practically dangling from the handles on the treadmill irritate the crap out of me.
I’ve never noticed the hair, so either it doesn’t bother me, or everyone at my gym wears ponytails. I’m with Charlotte, though. My hair is too short, so I just bobby pin my bangs back.

I’ve shared this story elsewhere, but it fits here too. There’s a woman at my gym who actually puts on weight lifting gloves to walk on the treadmill. Apparently, she’s holding on so tightly to avoid sliding off that she’s developed calluses! I have been challenged to take a picture of her, and I might just try it sometime. :)
I’m always forgetting my hair clips. I have a purse and car full of elasties but the clips are forever on my vanity. ::sigh::

Sometimes I work out at my office gym on my lunchbreak, and if I forget to bring or wear a hair tie, I have considered not working out for that reason alone. Then I tell myself “don’t be stupid” and hook my hair up with a rubber band, paperclip, or whatever I can find in the supply closet, breakage be damned.

Amen, Kelly!
I have really thick hair so working out with it down is not an option. I have about 20 hair thingies scattered about all my personal blongings just in case I need one–purse, car, bedroom, workout bag. It’s serious business.

Here is another one that has to go: people who work out on the elliptical or stair machine at insane speeds, completely leaning forward. Euh… You might be going fast, but you’re not even close to working with your whole bodyweight. Just a thought.

I don’t even understand how people are capable of working out with their hair down. Mine would end up in my mouth, my nose, plastered to my forehead and in knots that would take a year to extract.

one of my requirements with haircuts these days is “must still be long enough to throw back in a ponytail” so i can still work out and not get annoyed beyond all belief.
this past time, i got some layers that barely get in that elastic and i am NOT HAPPY.
so yes, totally hear you on the “how the hell can you work out with your mane of hair down your back?” people.

I COMPLETELY AGREE! It’s so ridiculous to watch some of the people at the gym, holding on and leaning on the machines. I just want to go up to them and be like, “WHAT IS THE POINT OF WHAT YOU’RE DOING?”
And I know some people read when they’re biking or on and elliptical, but I think it’s completely out of line when they read while running or LIFTING WEIGHTS. I saw a woman doing that yesteray! I mean, can’t she just do the lifting that takes less than a minute and focus on THAT?

Amen! I always feel like I get a little bit of an arm exercise when I am pumping them on the treadmill.
My hair? Has to be up and not touching my face at all. I also have hair bands every where!
Reading while lifting weights? HOW?

Can I add something here? People who walk for about 5 minutes on the treadmill, then stretch for half an hour and call that a workout.
Uh… ?

if your hair is too short to put it in a pony tail, i unserstand. im talking full length hair, usually with bangs.
thf- paperclip…thats a new one. I use rubber bands even though its bad for it (when i have to) but i am very careful when i do it cause my hair breaks easily.
Alice- true. or justgo full force for, like, 5 seconds then get off and look around like “hell yeah i totally kicked that things ass.” yeah, good for you.
chris- obviously.
Kathryn- ive never seen it while they are lifting weights, but there are definately people that sit on the machines and read a magazine. excuse me, this is not your toilet. do something.
JJ125- I know this probably isnt the kind of person you are talking about but it just reminds me of this adorable old man that comes in wearing his chinos and using a cane. he walks for about 5 minutes and then leaves. I like to talk to him, and when i compliment him on his dilegence he always says, “How do you think i stay so young and spry?” i just want to pinch his cheeks.
